The visible feature was only the surface
Inventory administration involves more than product lists: orders, returns, supplier records, and setup data need separate resource paths and persistent records.
The system also had to respect concrete constraints. The source lacks authentication and authorization middleware for data-changing endpoints. Purchase paths mount order routers in the inspected entry point, so distinct purchase behavior is not established. Legacy connection configuration requires remediation, and no automated tests or working deployment were verified.
My role covered inventory resource routing and database crud development, with responsibility for express resource endpoints, mongodb collection operations, and inventory-related record organization.
I turned the constraints into boundaries
A legacy Express and MongoDB API organizing pharmacy and non-pharmacy products, orders, returns, customers, employees, and supplier records into resource routers.
Dedicated route prefixes separate products from people, returns, and supplier records.
Pharmacy and non-pharmacy routers provide separate entry points for the two inventory categories.
Direct database calls demonstrate CRUD implementation without implying transactional inventory accounting or production access control.
The key decision: Organize endpoints by resource.
The implementation had to prove the model
I delivered the work across the full path: Composed resource routers in the Express application. Implemented MongoDB product reads, creates, updates, and deletes. Organized inventory-related setup, people, returns, and supplier endpoints.
The result is concrete: The source provides inspectable resource-level MongoDB CRUD code. The API structure covers several related inventory record types. The project demonstrates early backend implementation; security, transaction behavior, and deployment remain unverified.
The senior engineering lesson was that solving the visible workflow is only half the job. The architecture must also make constraints, failure modes, evidence, and ownership explicit enough for the next change to remain safe.
